Neptune Marine charter equipment used to extend Port of Calais
The Dutch charterer of marine equipment supplied marine equipment to Bouygues Travaux Publics, part of the Groupement Constructeur Calais Port 2015 consortium, for the extension of the Port of Calais, one of Europe’s leading passenger ports.
Port of Calais
Situated at the heart of one of the world’s busiest economic zones, the Port of Calais is the leading French port and second European port for passengers. In order to increase its currently insufficient capacity, it is decided to modernize the Port of Calais. The scope of work includes the construction of a new sea dyke, over 3 kilometres in length, that will accommodate a new 177-hectare port basin to the north of present-day installations.
Moreover, three new ferry terminals and a ro-ro terminal are constructed inside the basin. In order to make this happen over 4 million cubic metres are dredged in the area. The project is scheduled to be complete by the beginning of 2021.
Scope of work
Bouygues Travaux Publics is building two 288 meters long quays with the help of Neptune Marine’s charter equipment.
To assist the jack up barge, which is used for the construction, a flat top barge (EuroPontoon 5014) is hired as a supplying pontoon for the profiles and installation of 1735 units of anti-scour mattress. Moreover, another flat top barge (EuroPontoon 6022) is equipped with Neptune Marine’s 200 tons crane for the installation of the tie rods.
Charter equipment for any project
The two flat-top barges used in this project are part of Neptune’s fleet of barges, jack-ups and related marine equipment.
The marine service activities, including equipment charter and mobilization, are part of Neptune’s marine solutions. To offer contractors, construction firms and other marine related businesses the right equipment, Neptune Marine operates a fleet of more than 35 assets, which are available for both long- and short-term charter.
