Dredging Vessel Emerald Duchess for PD Ports
Dredger Vessel Emerald Duchess for our client PD Ports in progress.
The commitment to the economic success and environmental sustainability of the River Tees, has been confirmed by PD ports, as they invested in a £23m project. The Emerald Duchess, a new, state of art dredging vessel, designed by Neptune Marine.
Neptune Marine and PD ports teamed up to design a dredging vessel that meets the highest environmental and safety standards. The Emerald Duchess will head to the Netherlands for trials, after being under construction at a shipyard in Poland.
PD ports aims to be carbon Neutral by 2027. Therefore the Emerald Duchess will be a sustainable and innovative vessel, which can swap between power from a battery pack to fuel from hydrotreated vegetable oil. PD ports also made sure the vessel is ready for future innovations, as the power units can be swapped for modern fuel cells. The hull shape of the vessel was designed to minimise the fuel consumption as much as possible.
The Tees and Hartlepool are a safe and consistent passage for vessels with a depth up to 17 meters. This is because PD ports, as Statutory Harbour Authority (SHA), has the powers to dredge to legally agreed levels.
Launch planned Q2 2024.
Delivery planned Q3 2024.
